My figurative period was followed by 4 to 5 years of total pictoric inactivity. The painting in recent years has shown no predominant trend, no avant-garde theory, no group to establish guidelines or even no dominant artistic personality. So today, in the contemporary painting anything suits, from strictly conceptual painting, or even radical, to paint by painting basics. In this context, and finally after my inactivity (which I consider evolutionary) has emerged my current abstract phase.

I paint usually on the floor, using the Pollock dripping method as he did as my point of reference. Often I also use other technical variations. I would also like to emphasize that the different techniques, even more in this case, have no value in themselves. The style and the results are the only thing that matters. Furthermore  It doesn’t matter how appealing or uncommon those  results may be. According to Greenberg  the only thing that matters is if they are original or not.

With this technique, what happens on the canvas is almost unpredictable. As Baziotes said, when it points to a posible suggestion we must take the opportunity and make it real, The consequence of this is that for me painting becomes a fantastic adventure and great fun.

The available lines, colors, stains, smudges are no longer assembled  to represent identifiable objects as in figurative painting. In words of Mondrian, the aim is to paint nothing, or even to paint nothingness. The expressive resources should be available by themselves to have an artistic plastic value. This is only posible if they can be integrated as an indissoluble whole with internal coherence.

If not painting anything recognizable; will it be a work known only in terms of decor? NO. The tools are used in this case as the subject of the painting itself. They replace themselves the external image stock of the figurative painting.

To this end they must provide an evocative quality, bringing light, space, movement and pace by themselves. It will be pure painting. The painting for the painting.

As Maria Zambrano said, the painting, even with this new plasticity, will continue to be a privileged space that will capture our look.
